Got called to a home in the Indian Hills area of Opelousas where the homeowner said the outdoor unit had started making an intermittent rattling noise during operation and cooling had been slightly weaker over the past week. Inspected the condenser fan assembly and found one of the fan blades had developed a hairline crack along the leading edge that was throwing the blade out of balance, causing the vibration and making the motor work harder than it should under the Acadiana summer heat. Replaced the blade assembly, tested motor amperage through several cooling cycles, and confirmed the noise was completely gone and cooling output was back to normal. Caught it before the blade could damage the motor or the condenser cabinet.

Before spending that kind of money, they called us for a second opinion. Ran a thorough diagnostic and found the compressor was pulling within normal amperage range. The real problem was a cottonwood-packed condenser coil causing the system to trip the high-pressure limit switch early every cycle, which looks like compressor failure if you are not checking for it.
